Although there are still a few weeks left to soak up the summer sun, winter weather is knocking at Mother Nature’s door. To give you a glimpse of what’s to come, The Old Farmer’s Almanac just released its 2024-2025 winter weather forecast—and it looks like it will be a pretty uneventful season.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts weather trends and potential seasonal events by comparing solar patterns and historical weather conditions with current solar activity. To create its winter weather forecast, which is about 80 percent accurate, experts from The Old Farmer’s Almanac look at averages over decades, not just how the weather compared to the previous year.
While last year’s winter was wet and snowy, this season is predicted to be calm and gentle. According to the forecast, temperatures will be up, and snowfall will be down throughout most of the U.S. That said, chilly winter days and some snowfall are expected in various parts of the country.
Be prepared to dig out your shovel if you live in central and southern Appalachia, the western Ohio Valley, and the Rockies—areas where snowfall may be heavy. On the other hand, Florida, the deep south, and southern California may experience heavy rainfall.
