Nicole Kidman always shuts down a red carpet; her looks are glamorous, sexy, and sometimes even a little playful. But as her stylist Jason Bolden told InStyle, her everyday wardrobe leans a little more classic. “If I was having a fitting with her today, I’d probably walk in and she’d have on a pair of jeans…loafers, a great silk blouse…and a houndstooth blazer,” he said.
Bolden is an expert at putting together the perfect outfit—he’s dressed Cynthia Erivo, Sabrina Carpenter, Yara Shahidiand, plus a few InStyle cover stars—and even he agrees that Kidman’s uniform is kind of genius. It’s uncomplicated, combining elegant pieces with what he considers ageless wardrobe staples, for a look that you can wear almost anywhere. It also helps that each individual element is so versatile, they can all work with the rest of your wardrobe.
I spoke to Bolden in partnership with the skin care brand Eucerin to get the scoop on the fall uniform Kidman wears on repeat.
Classic Jeans
According to Bolden, Kidman can always be found in a pair of classic jeans, and this fall, he’s favoring a simple straight-leg. He explained that the sleek style is unfussy and looks good with just about anything you pair it with, whether that’s loafers, sneakers, or even a heel.
If you prefer a stiffer straight-leg, consider grabbing either this on-sale pair from Madewell or Agolde ‘90s Jeans. But if stretch is a must-have, you can’t go wrong with these curve-friendly Good American jeans, which are available in sizes 00-22.
Silky Blouses
Bolden emphasized that he’s into things that feel good on the skin this fall (like the new Eucerin Hydrogel, which soothes eczema-prone skin), and Kidman’s go-to top offers that great buttery feel with a really elevated look. Maeve’s silky, now-$35 button-down is a great no-fuss option, but if you, like me, want a little more frill, I’m really loving this top from Reformation. It features dainty ties at the collar, sleeves, and waist, as well as sweet eyelet details.
Polished Blazers
“She loves a blazer,” Bolden said. And for good reason, too; a suit jacket is versatile and looks good on everyone “no matter what age they are,” Bolden explained. You can do what Kidman does and pair the polished layer with casual jeans, or, as Bolden suggests, wear it “over [a] dress to kind of give it an edgier, downtown feel.”
Given that blazers are once again trending for fall, there are plenty of styles to choose from. Old Navy and Wayf’s blazers are both available in great autumnal plaids, while Quince has leather style for just $200. But for something really classic that will go with everything, grab The Drop’s Blake Long Blazer in black.
Sleek Loafers
Like Kidman, I too swear by loafers to dress up a pair of jeans. The shoes really can make an otherwise basic outfit look remarkably chic—of course, it doesn’t hurt that the style is actually comfortable. LifeStride’s $35 loafers are my top affordable pick, but if you’re down to spend a little more, I personally swear by G.H. Bass’s leather loafers.
