Hyper-personalization has taken center stage during 2024 in the form of niche ‘core’ aesthetics, think clustercore, regencycore, cottagecore, etc. But some of these trends far surpassed others in popularity this year. To help identify those defining trends, Taskrabbit put together a list of seven ‘core’ design styles that its users brought to life this year—and the results range from gardencore to craftcore.
To build its list of the top ‘core’ aesthetics, Taskrabbit looked at real jobs completed on its platform and identified defining aesthetics used in homes across the United States. Here’s a look at the trends that dominated in 2024.
Gardencore
Many homeowners spent time in the garden this year. According to Taskrabbit, landscaping tasks have increased by 17 percent and gardening tasks have increased by 31 percent in 2024. Taskrabbit users are making their outdoor spaces more enjoyable through lush landscapes and rustic furniture—two top trending terms for the year. The company says this is due to a growing interest in “creating an oasis to escape the hustle and bustle.”
Craftcore
Craftcore is all about celebrating the art of crafting, from handmade knitting projects to home DIYs. Taskrabbit found that murals (up 27 percent), gallery walls ( up 26 percent), mosaics (up 12 percent), and handmade (up 10 percent) are all terms that grew in popularity in 2024.
Hostingcore
Perfect for the host with the most, this aesthetic emphasizes curating warm, inviting, and beautiful spaces for gatherings. Hostingcore combines elements of hospitality, interior design, and culinary arts to create an experience guests will enjoy. Taskrabbit users are enhancing their hosting spaces through elements like sleeper sofas, home bars, mood lighting, parties, and mini-fridges, according to the report.
Sportscore
From the popularity of the movie Challengers to the pickleball craze, sports have had a large influence on people in 2024. This influence has also extended to the home in the form of home gyms, sports memorabilia, and lawn games. According to Taskrabbit, pickleball-related tasks are up 80 percent and sports gear-related tasks (like mounting rackets) are up 33 percent year over year. In addition, many people want to implement more wellness amenities into their spaces.
Westerncore
Westerncore draws from elements of the American West, including leather, suede, fringe, earthy tones, reclaimed wood, and vintage Americana-themed prints. Taskrabbit says that the terms campground (up 300 percent), saloon ( up 50 percent), saddle (up 46 percent), cacti/cactus (up 44 percent), and cozy décor (up 30 percent) have been used numerous times over the past year. Western motifs and cozy campfire vibes are overall aesthetics people want to bring into their spaces, according to the report.
Colorcore
The days of prioritizing neutrals are gone as bright and bold colors take over walls and décor in homes. Terms like eclectic (up 200 percent), decorative pillows (up 80 percent), wallpapers (up 70 percent), pink (up 23 percent), and bold (up 21 percent) have seen an increase in use on Taskrabbit this year.
Many homeowners are enjoying transforming their spaces with color—from bright walls to vibrant furniture, and bold accessories. Taskrabbit users are looking for help painting their walls with bright colors and installing colorful floor tiles and wallpaper in their spaces.
