For 1kg of plastic waste, visitors can enjoy a wholesome lunch, which typically consists of four rotis, two types of vegetables, dal, rice, salad, curd, pickle, and papad
If you are hungry and want to enjoy a full meal without spending any money, there is a unique cafe in Ambikapur district of Chhattisgarh where one can trade plastic waste for food. This might sound surprising, but the cafe, known as the Garbage Cafe, provides free meals to those who bring plastic bottles or other waste.
The initiative, a first-of-its-kind in India, is part of a cleanliness campaign aimed at combating plastic pollution and promoting environmental sustainability. Ambikapur, renowned for its cleanliness and often ranked alongside Indore as one of the cleanest cities in India, hosts this café as part of its effort to make the city plastic-free.
According to reports, the cafe provides breakfast in exchange for half a kilogram of plastic waste. Breakfast options include popular dishes such as aloo chaap, idli, samosa, and bread chaap. For 1kg of plastic waste, visitors can enjoy a wholesome lunch, which typically consists of four rotis, two types of vegetables, dal, half a plate of rice, salad, curd, pickle, and papad.
This initiative not only addresses the problem of plastic pollution but also ensures that no one goes hungry.
For those who do not bring plastic waste, the café offers affordable meals at nominal prices. A basic meal costing Rs 40 includes plain vegetables, rice, dal, pickle, and salad. A Rs 50 thali consists of two plain vegetables, four rotis, dal, rice, salad, papad, and pickle. For Rs 70, a more elaborate thali is available, which includes paneer curry, two types of vegetables, rice, dal, pickle, and salad.
