Lisa Kudrow recalled one scene from Friends that made her cry.
The actress, best known for her role as Phoebe Buffay on the hit rom-com, recently shared that she’s only now beginning to watch episodes of the iconic NBC sitcom, despite its enduring popularity.
“God forbid, if anyone walked into my house and saw me watching my show, I’d be mortified,” Kudrow admitted on the Dinner’s On Me podcast.
“There’s episodes I’ve never seen. I mean I was at the table read. I don’t know what the rewrites were for the other stories, you know?”
The No Good Deed star explained that revisiting the series brings a sense of uncertainty.
“There are episodes I just never saw, and still haven’t because I’m still deciding how to work my way through it,” she continued. “It’s like there’s a certain amount of anxiety around watching it.”
However, Kudrow revealed that one scene, in particular, left her deeply touched—Phoebe’s wedding to Mike Hannigan, played by Paul Rudd, in Season 10.
“When Phoebe got married, and she’s walking down the aisle and has this huge smile on her face, I teared up because she was so happy,” Kudrow shared.
“She was so just, like, honestly happy, and it was just — I don’t know. It was really touching to me. Like, she deserves to be this happy.”
Kudrow brought Phoebe Buffay to life throughout all 10 seasons of Friends and also portrayed Phoebe’s quirky twin sister Ursula, a character originally introduced on Mad About You.
Her portrayal earned her an Emmy Award in 1998 for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
