Air travel can often feel monotonous, with strict rules and regulations adding to the experience. Open food and beverages are usually prohibited, and passengers often find themselves paying steep prices for basic items like water or snacks. But now and then, something happens that creates a memorable experience. On a recent Indigo flight, one passenger turned into a chaiwala at 36,000 feet, surprising fellow travelers by serving tea.
In a video that has gone viral on the internet, two men can be seen serving tea from a can and serving it to a woman in disposable cups. The video was reposted by an Instagram user @aircrew.in, and since has gained a lot of reactions and views. Most people criticized such behavior and quoted how airlines have strict rules about carrying open food.
One user commented, “What happened to the rules..norms of carrying liquid” Another humorously said, “Soon there will be mung phali wala chaat masala”. Some others also called out the airlines for being unprofessional enough to allow such a thing to happen onboard.
The video has quickly gone viral on Reddit too, sparking debates among users about the incident. Many are questioning how the passenger was allowed to bring tea onboard in the first place and why the IndiGo cabin crew or pilots didn’t intervene.
One user expressed serious concerns, saying, “How easy is it to poison fellow passengers and compromise the entire flight? Indigo management and airport security need to be held accountable.”
Another pointed out, “It looks like the passengers might be traveling as a group. Even so, this behavior is unacceptable on a flight. The flask should never have been allowed past the security check.”
Indigo Airlines has found itself at the center of several controversies recently. From issues related to passenger service to concerns about in-flight policies, the airline has faced criticism and scrutiny in the public eye. Just this month, Trisha Shetty, founder of SheSays, accused the airlines of not being cooperative when her mother was flying. Her mother accused someone of trying to steal her bag, but the airline staff, allegedly, refused to file a complaint against the person.

In another incident, famous Indian actress Sharmita Shetty shared her experience with the airlines. Sharmita informed that during one of her flights, her bags were offloaded without her being informed. This caused her a lot of trouble as she was traveling for an event. Indigo was also ranked 103rd out of 109 airlines in the AirHelp Score report, which placed it among the “world’s worst airlines”. While the airlines refuted the survey, these recent issues have caused great damage to its image in business.
