Natasha Rothwell has nothing but good things to tell the fans of The White Lotus about the series’ upcoming new season.
The actress, known for her beloved role as Belinda in season one of the HBO series, has shared her excitement for the series’ third installment, which is set in Thailand.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the 44-year-old actress described the upcoming season as “magic.”
“I would be on set, even when it wasn’t my day shooting, just to watch the magic unfold,” Rothwell revealed. “And I would be gagged — as if I hadn’t already read all the scripts! I’d be like, ‘Oh, s—.’ I really do think that this season is magic. That’s the only word.”
While details about The White Lotus season three remain tightly guarded, Rothwell admitted the secrecy has been challenging.
“My hairdresser, the cab driver, people have been shaking me down for information and I’m just like, ‘I’ve signed my life away. I can’t tell you anything,'” she joked.
Fans last saw Belinda as the spa manager at the White Lotus resort in Maui, where her dreams of opening her own wellness business were dashed after Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) rescinded her promise to fund the venture. Now, Belinda is set to return with “main character energy,” stepping into a new chapter of her story.
“She’s still working at the White Lotus, and she’s in Thailand doing sort of an exchange program to learn more about the wellness programs that the Thailand White Lotus offers,” Rothwell explained.
“She’s going to be a guest for the first time, even though she’s taking classes and it’s a work trip.”
The actress described this shift as a major evolution for Belinda, who has never stayed at the luxury hotel as a guest.
“We get to see her really dip her toe in the other side of life of the upstairs/downstairs of White Lotus,” she noted.
Belinda’s journey this season focuses on personal growth and reconciliation with her past disappointments.
“It’s a really cool exploration of status and her journey and reconciling the fact that her dreams of owning the spa never came to fruition, so what do you do? ‘I’m going to pick myself up and learn something new,’ and still grow in her own way,” Rothwell added.
After the heartbreak of season one, Belinda has been working to find inspiration again. “Her purpose for coming to Thailand is to have a dream again,” the actress said.
