The new year is a fitting time to refresh your surroundings and cultivate a space you enjoy. Incorporating houseplants into your home décor is a simple yet impactful way to bring more life to your space. Houseplants enhance your home’s aesthetic and provide a calming presence with their lush greenery, transforming your environment.
With so many houseplants to choose from, it can be hard to know which ones will be the best fit for you and your home. Luckily, the team at Costa Farms has shared their favorite houseplants for the new year—ranging from low-maintenance varieties to bold-colored blooms; these plants make for the perfect addition to your home this year.
Ponytail Palm
Ponytail palms are a popular pick due to their expressive greenery. “I love Ponytails because they’re so easy to take care of,” says Arianna Cabrera do Ona, SVP, chief people officer at Costa Farms. “They don’t need a lot of water, flourish in different light levels, and are slow growers so I don’t need to repot them very much. They’re also very unique looking!”
Albo Pothos
“I love its stunning, large, fenestrated leaves that boast beautiful variegation. Each leaf is a piece of artwork,” says Chaunce Dunbar, research and development manager at Costa Farms. “And one of the best things is that it’s low maintenance and easy to grow. It doesn’t demand constant attention, is quite resilient, and its adaptability makes it a great option for anyone.”
Rope Hoya
“I have a deep appreciation for my rope hoya. The vibrant green leaves create a lush atmosphere and the pretty pink blooms bring a touch of color to my space. It’s also so easy to take care of. I just love the way it trails down!” says Mari Carrasquillo, vice president of marketing and ecommerce at Costa Farms.
Rope hoyas are the perfect addition to any bookshelf or cabinet. Their vines drape elegantly, creating a grounding, earthy aesthetic to any space.
Monstera
“I really have a soft spot for Monstera species—there’s such diversity with leaf size and shape,” says Justin Hancock, horticulturist at Costa Farms. “You can create a visually interesting collection by mixing and matching varieties … What’s not to love about that?!”
ZZ Plant
As a token low-maintenance houseplant, ZZ plants are a favorite for many plant parents. “It’s the chillest roommate ever—super low-maintenance, surviving all kinds of lighting, and only needing a sprinkle of water now and then. The shiny green leaves are total showstoppers,” says Alma Venegas, key account manager at Costa Farms. “With my jam-packed schedule, it’s the perfect plant pal.”
Money Tree
“I love the process of braiding the money tree—it makes the appreciation go up,” says Stefano Pinto, key account manager at Costa Farms. “I also love the nickname money tree and the legend that the braided trunks trap good fortune, challenging it up and outward through the leaves.”
Pothos
Pothos plants come in variegated types and species. “They’re beautiful, low-maintenance plants that effortlessly brighten any space. The shiny green leaves add a refreshing touch, making my rooms feel more lovely and inviting,” says Kathleen Luna, talent acquisition specialist at Costa Farms.
Golden Pothos
Golden pothos are distinguished by their golden-yellow markings, making them a unique and vibrant addition to your collection of greenery. “This is sentimental for me,” says Kysha Berrios, sales specialist at Costa Farms. “Growing up in my home country, I saw my grandmother cutting, propagating, and sharing it with friends. To me, it represents family, friendship, and connection.”
