Each week, the editors at Yoga Journal compile moments—sometimes mind-bending, sometimes simple—that remind us yoga is, in fact, everywhere.
GIVE
In the wake of the Los Angeles wildfires, at least one local yoga community (and an online studio beyond California) are offering free classes to those affected by the devastation. May the support foster an experience of inner ease and equanimity.
ENLIGHTENMENT
The Let’s Talk Yoga podcast dedicated a recent episode to enlightenment with host and teacher trainer Arundhati Baitmangalkar exploring the concept with author, yoga teacher, and yoga therapist Indu Arora. Let’s just say samadhi may not be as unattainable as you think.
POSE
Ever find yourself wanting to linger endlessly in Puppy Pose? You need to try the Half Puppy version we experienced earlier this week in yin class led by teacher Brady Garrison. Start in the classic version (above). Then bend one elbow so your forearm is parallel-ish to the short side of the mat and rest your forehead on it. See if you experience the same exquisite stretch along your side body that we felt. Don’t forget to swap sides.
QUOTE
“Over time there will be less cloudiness and more clarity. Recognizing this shift is a way to measure our progress.” –T.K.V. Desikachar, The Heart of Yoga
TECH
The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025 this week included a couple nods to the ancient practice. The yoctoMat, known as “a diagnostic yoga mat,” was unveiled. Its sensors track balance, posture, and weight distribution while you practice, potentially helping you improve your alignment and physical awareness in real time. Also, laptop maker Lenova announced the latest generation of its Yoga Book 9i laptop, ostensibly named for the flexibility of its 360-degree hinge connecting screen to keyboard. (Although let’s remember that yoga is more than contorting oneself into bendy shapes.)
