Target is a fantastic place to buy just about anything. From clothing to snacks to electronics, the store is basically a one-stop shop for your life. Our favorite department in the store, however, is the furniture and home decor. Whether it’s new bedding, seasonal decor, accessories, or big-ticket items, Target is full of wonderful finds. It’s also a place where designers like to shop for their budget-savvy clients (and themselves). So, here are seven home items you should always buy at Target, according to designers.
Coverlets
Interior designer Kate Dawson says she always goes to Target when she needs a simple coverlet for a bedroom. “I always mix one solid coverlet with whatever bedding we’ve chosen for the space,” she says. “It breaks up the pattern and really gives the bed a more luxurious look,” she explains. “Adding layers is a great way to make bedding look more expensive, and a simple coverlet gives you the added texture without the bulk. Plus, they come in so many colors and styles at Target.”
Kids’ Bedding
Dawson also loves buying kids’ bedding at Target, like a whimsical set with a dinosaur print. Buying kids’ bedding here is a smart move because kids can change their minds or what they’re into so frequently. So, investing in pricy bedding may not be worth it for little ones. Fortunately, Target has lots of good options. “They always have bright and cheerful options at a great price point,” the designer notes. “They often have a few other accessories (sometimes lamps, artwork, and/or throw pillows) that were made to match, which are also well-priced. It’s always the first place I look when it comes to designing kids’ bedrooms.”
Fake Plants
Target has great fake plants that look really chic. Creator Emily Coyne (and host of the Bows & Company podcast)) tells me the fake ficus tree from Target is one of her favorite pieces—and she even has one in her own apartment. “I placed it in an empty corner that needed a little warmth, and it completely transformed the space,” she says. “It adds a touch of greenery without requiring any maintenance, which is perfect for me. The tree feels realistic and has just the right size to make a statement without overpowering the room. It’s a simple way to bring some life and balance to the overall decor.”
Baskets
Coyne says decorative baskets are another great item to look out for at Target. “[They] add warmth and texture to any space,” she says. “They’re perfect for organizing or displaying items, like throw blankets or pillows, creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere with their natural materials.”
Accent Chairs
There’s no need spend a fortune on a simple accent chair, especially when you can choose from several budget-friendly options from Target. “I have two of the Target spindle chairs in my apartment, and I absolutely love them,” says Coyne. “They’re such great quality for the price, super comfortable, and have a timeless design that fits perfectly year-round.”
Accent chairs can combine sophistication with practical comfort, making them an incredibly cozy addition to any room.
Wall Mirrors
Searching for a high-end look without the high-end price? Coyne suggests adding some design-forward wall mirrors to your cart. “[Target’s mirrors] are not only affordable but also mimic high-end designs, adding a touch of elegance to any room,” Coyne says. “The mirrors are perfect for filling up wall space, creating a sense of openness, and bringing a stylish, expensive look to your home without the high price tag.”
Designer Collaborations
One of the best things about shopping at Target is the designer collaborations. You can shop for modern farmhouse style pieces with Chip and Joanna Gaines’ collection Hearth and Hand, find colorful, eclectic pieces in Justina Blakeney’s Opalhouse with Jungalow line, and more. If you want designer-approved pieces at budget-friendly prices, the shopping Target’s exclusive collaborations is a fail-proof route.
