Applying mehndi is a cherished tradition in India. Women often apply mehndi on their hands during various occasions or festivals, aiming to achieve a deep, dark colour. However, in winter, it can be challenging to get the desired intensity, as mehndi requires warmth to develop its colour.
The cold weather slows down the drying process, often resulting in a faded hue. However, by following some simple home remedies, you can achieve a rich, dark colour in just an hour, even during winter.
Here are six simple home remedies to get the desired colour from your mehndi:
- Apply Mustard Oil: Before applying mehndi, massage mustard oil onto your palms. This softens the skin and enhances the absorption of mehndi, resulting in a darker colour.
- Use Clove Smoke: Once the mehndi has dried, expose your hands to clove smoke. Heat a few cloves on an iron pan, and when they start smoking, carefully place your hands over the rising smoke. This deepens the colour and makes it last longer.
- Apply Vicks or Balm: After the mehndi has dried and been removed, rub a small amount of Vicks or any balm onto the design. The oil in the balm helps intensify the colour and makes it more prominent.
- Lemon and Sugar Solution: While the mehndi is drying, apply a mixture of lemon juice and sugar. This solution keeps the mehndi moist for longer, allowing the colour to develop more deeply.
- Avoid Water: After the mehndi has completely dried, avoid exposing it to water for at least 12 to 13 hours. Instead of washing it off, gently scrape it off. Water can cause the colour to fade.
- Use Clove Oil: Apply clove oil to your palms before or after applying mehndi. This not only darkens the colour but also nourishes the skin.
By using these easy and effective home remedies, you can ensure your mehndi develops a rich, dark hue, even in the coldest months.
