Seven-time Formula 1 World Champion and one of the greatest drivers to ever hit the grid, Lewis Hamilton has officially begun a new phase of his illustrious career with Ferrari.
Hamilton’s move from Mercedes to the iconic Italian team was made possible by a release clause in his contract, allowing him to leave Mercedes after the 2024 season. The move, which was announced on 1 February 2024, surprised many, including those within the Mercedes camp.
Hamilton now joins Ferrari on a multiyear contract, partnering with Charles Leclerc for the upcoming 2025 season.
Hamilton’s first day as a Ferrari driver was filled with emotion and gratitude. Taking to social media, he shared his excitement by posting a photo of himself in an all-black suit alongside a classic Ferrari F40. “There are some days that you know you’ll remember forever, and today, my first as a Ferrari driver, is one of those days,” he wrote. “Part of me has always held on to that dream of racing in red. I couldn’t be happier to realise that dream today.”
The British driver’s visit to Ferrari’s headquarters in Maranello included meetings with key figures in the organisation, including Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna, Team Principal Fred Vasseur, and Vice Chairman Piero Ferrari. Hamilton toured the Fiorano track and Enzo Ferrari’s historic office, which has remained largely unchanged since the founder’s death in 1988.
As part of his induction into the Scuderia, Hamilton was introduced to the behind-the-scenes team members, including mechanics, engineers, and office staff. Expressing his commitment to the team, he stated, “I’m dedicated to bringing everything I have to deliver for the team, the wider organisation, and the fans.” Hamilton’s “immersion programme” also includes pre-season tasks such as technical briefings and meetings with various departments at Ferrari’s Maranello factory.
Replacing Carlos Sainz, Hamilton will now race alongside Charles Leclerc for Ferrari. Fans are eager to see the seven-time world champion in Ferrari red as he aims to add to his record-breaking career. The 2025 Formula 1 season will officially begin on 14 March at the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne and conclude on 7 December.
Lewis Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari marks a significant moment in his career and the sport’s history. With his dream of racing in red now realised, Hamilton is set to embark on this new journey, bringing hope and excitement to Ferrari fans worldwide.
