Locals believe that bowing before Lord Shiva at this temple in Ulatu village, Ranchi, can grant their wish for a life partner, earning it a reputation as a place where one can find true love
As February approaches, preparations for Valentine’s Day begin around the world. Singles pray for partners, while couples seek blessings for their future together. In Ulatu village of Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, stands a unique temple where people bow down to seek blessings for a soulmate or marriage.
While this temple attracts devotees throughout the year, it experiences a larger crowd during Valentine’s week. This Shiva temple has gained a reputation as a place where one can find true love.
Locals believe that bowing before Lord Shiva in this temple can grant their wish for a life partner. The temple priest, Shambhunath, shares that young men and women visit the temple to pray for a suitable partner.
According to the pujari, their wishes are often fulfilled within two to three months. “We have witnessed many people finding their soulmates here, getting married, and even starting families. They continue to visit the temple regularly to offer their gratitude,” he said.
The worship method at this temple is unique. To make a wish, devotees bring a coconut, but unlike other temples, the coconut is not broken. Instead, it is tied at the temple. Once the wish is fulfilled, the devotee collects the coconut and distributes it as prasad, ensuring the coconut remains untouched until the wish comes true.
Priest Shambhunath also mentions that many couples visit the temple to perform havan (a sacred fire ritual). He himself has arranged the marriages of several couples, and he claims that none of these marriages have ended in separation.
How to Reach
To reach the temple, search for YBN University on Google Maps in Ranchi. Behind the university campus, devotees have to climb a large hill to reach the temple.
