Republic Day 2025: Events across states and districts will see Governors and CM’s unfurl the Tricolour, while the President begins celebrations by raising the flag at Kartavya Path.
REPUBLIC DAY 2025: This year, India will mark its 76th Republic Day on January 26, Sunday. The occasion celebrates the day on which India’s Constitution came into effect in 1950. The Constitution of India was designed and approved by the Constituent Assembly on November 26, 1949. To commemorate Republic Day, preparations are in full-swing in various states and union territories (UTs). As a sombre reminder of the country’s values of justice, liberty and equality, January 26 is declared a national holiday.

Several events are planned at the state and district levels, where Governors and Chief Ministers participate and unfurl the Tricolour, while the President kicks off the celebration by raising the national flag at Kartavya Path in the nation’s capital.
The annual parade at Rajpath, now known as Kartavya Path, in New Delhi is one of the day’s celebrations. Along with colourful tableaux highlighting the diversity and culture of several states, it includes march-pasts performed by Indian Armed Forces members. The three-day Republic Day festivities culminate on January 29 with the Beating Retreat ritual.

Here are some of the Republic Day 2025 festivities scheduled in different states and union territories:
Delhi
The Republic Day Parade will take place in the national capital, involving Air Force, Army, Navy, police and paramilitary personnel. The parade will also include tableaux from various states. The theme for this year’s Republic Day parade is ‘Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas,’ which honours India’s rich legacy and optimistic future.
Prabowo Subianto, Indonesia’s President, has accepted India’s invitation to be the chief guest at the Republic Day celebrations in 2025. Subianto’s visit, the first of Prime Minister Modi’s third term, demonstrates the two countries’ strengthening strategic collaboration, particularly in defence and maritime concerns.
The annual Republic Day Parade will also highlight India’s defensive capabilities, including cutting-edge missiles, aircraft and military systems.
Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government has issued a resolution specifying events for the Republic Day celebration on January 26 in state schools to instill patriotism and national pride in children. The Department of School Education and Sports has announced that the plan would be implemented in all government and private schools across the state.

Following the flag-unfurling ceremony, students must recite the national anthem, the state anthem and the Indian Constitution’s preamble. In addition, a morning parade will take place on school grounds. Schools could also arrange elocution or debate competitions for pupils on topics such as patriotism, democracy and freedom fighters.
The Chief Commissioner of Education will monitor the operations and ensure compliance in both public and private schools. To ensure that the activities are carried out properly, education authorities and inspectors will oversee them.
Punjab
Every year, elaborate arrangements are made in Ludhiana to commemorate Republic Day with patriotic zeal. On January 26, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will unfurl the national flag among the event’s prominent guests. According to reports, Deputy Commissioner Jitendra Jorwal convened a detailed assessment meeting on January 9 at Punjab Agricultural University’s sports stadium to assess preparations for the impending Republic Day celebrations on January 26.
Jorwal emphasised the significance of the event, stating that Republic Day celebrations are among the most important national events in the country, and the district administration will commemorate them with full patriotic passion and excitement. He said that the district has a reputation for having the best Republic Day celebrations in the state each year, which will be continued this year as well.
Apart from them, there are various additional events planned in states such as Bihar, Haryana, Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Telangana to commemorate the 76th Republic Day.
