Costco has been one of my family’s go-to grocery spots since I was a kid. My mom used to take my sisters and our friends to Costco during summer break, where we’d tag along for her weekly grocery trip with promises of a food court visit once she was done. Between that and the abundance of free samples, it was a pretty easy sell on her part.
Now that I’ve moved out and no longer live in a household of five, my visits to the popular grocery warehouse are few and far between, but there’s one staple that keeps me coming back–a huge bag of Kirkland Signature whole-grain rolled oats. A ten-pound bag, to be exact.
For only $9.99, this seems like a deal that’s too good to be true. The resealable bag helps to keep the oats fresh so there’s no need to worry about them going stale if you don’t use them up right away. And I’ll admit, the first time I purchased them, I was skeptical about my ability to actually finish the bag. However, rolled oats are undeniably versatile and I made it through faster than I anticipated.
One of my favorite things to make with them is overnight oats. EatingWell has so many creative recipes, and there’s nothing better than waking up to a delicious breakfast that’s ready to eat. Of course, when I’m craving something warm, regular Old-Fashioned Oatmeal or a cozy dish of baked oats make a perfect option. For those who favor a more savory breakfast, recipes like our Savory Oatmeal with Tomato & Sausage or our Savory Oatmeal with Cheddar, Collards & Eggs are definitely worth trying.
If you’re wondering if oats are healthy, they sure are! Oats are packed with a nutrient most Americans don’t get enough of but is connected to a bevy of health benefits—fiber. A 1/3 cup serving has 4 grams, which is almost 15% of the recommended daily value. Eating enough fiber can help support healthy weight loss, lower your risk of certain types of cancer and even reduce symptoms of inflammation. Plus oats are a source of a specific type of fiber called beta-glucan, which helps keep you regular.
So there you have it. Not only do they lend themselves perfectly to countless delicious recipes, these whole-grain rolled oats can help support your health in many different ways. At less than a dollar per pound, you can’t beat the affordability either. Make sure to snag a bag during your next Costco run; you won’t regret it!
