It is important to stay hydrated to maintain fitness. While the human body does comprise 70 per cent water, it is still important to consume an adequate amount of fluids daily to stay well-hydrated. The loss of fluid can be a result of the body being exposed to warmer climates or maybe because of undertaking rigorous physical exercises. The fluids in the body also play a key role in functions like digestion, absorption, circulation, creation of saliva, and transportation of nutrients and many more.
At the same time, it has to be noted that high protein has to be combined with increased water intake. It is vital to keep the combination of a high-protein diet and increased water intake. Komal Malik, Head Dietician at Asian Hospital, Faridabad, recently talked about this topic.
“When you have a high-protein diet, the level of protein intake per kilogram of body weight increases. For example, the recommended allowance for protein intake is generally between 0.8 grams and 1 gram of protein per kilogram of body weight per day. When we talk about a high-protein diet, the protein intake per kilogram of body weight increases to around 1.2 to 1.6 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight per day,” Komal Malik was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The human body is prepared enough to deal with the consumption of a normal amount of protein. But if a person is following a high-protein diet, it builds extra strain on the liver and kidneys to process and eliminate the urea. In a bid to address this issue, it is recommended by many to increase the intake of water so that the additional urea can be flushed out of the body.
Multiple studies revealed that consuming foods that are rich in water, like fruits, vegetables and soups, can also help in meeting the amount of daily water intake target. People, who go through intense and rigorous training, end up losing excess fluids during the exercise. To deal with this loss, it is of utmost importance to make up for that deficit by drinking an adequate amount of water.
