The internet is still getting served random Haylor lore more than a decade after Taylor Swift and Harry Styles split, but, trust us, no one’s mad about it. As a refresher, Swift and Styles dated from November 2012 to January 2013 after first meeting at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. And while their time together was brief, Swift still managed to pull off a sweet birthday surprise for her boyfriend at the time.
In a new TikTok from the Australian indie band The Temper Trap, Swift apparently approached them to help her out with her gift. While celebrating the 15th anniversary of their debut studio album, Conditions, the rockers revealed that they first learned Styles was a fan of their music after he posted lyrics from their hit track “Sweet Disposition” on social media and later got them inked on his arm—or at least, attempted to.
“I think [Styles] tweeted that he got it, so then, you know, it was brought to our attention,” lead singer Dougy Mandagi recalled, before noting that the One Direction alum’s ink was incorrect. Rather than saying, “Won’t stop to surrender,” Styles’s script read: “Won’t stop ‘til we surrender.”
“We were laughing about how it was wrong,” Mandagi added.
Soon after the tattoo snafu, Mandagi explained how he and his bandmates were approached by Swift in their green room at the ARIA Awards “with a piece of paper.” “She goes, ‘Oh, can you write it? Can you write the lyrics for my boyfriend, it’s his birthday?’ We’re like, ‘Okay, cool,'” Mandagi said, adding that he wondered which version of the lyrics he should put down. “Do I write the right lyrics, or do I write the wrong lyrics?” He continued, “I can’t remember which one I wrote.”
While that part will remain a mystery, how Swift and Styles’s relationship ended will forever be inked in minds. The two took a trip to the British Virgin Islands in early January 2013 and reportedly got in a fight, which resulted in Swift leaving early—famously, alone on a boat. The former couple appear to be on good terms now, with Swift sweetly supporting Harry’s 2023 Grammy win.
