Timothée Chalamet is a sartorial agent of chaos.
It was literally just yesterday when Tana Mongeau popped up on my TikTok for you page to bemoan the rise of skinny jeans among “fashion girlies,” captioning her video, “are the scarves with skulls next be honest.”
Apparently, the answer is yes. At least, according to last night’s Saturday Night Live host and musical guest, Timothée Chalamet. In the early hours of January 26, Chalamet was photographed arriving at the SNL after-party in a peak Gen-Z look, pairing baggy gray jeans with a studded belt, slim black sneakers, a large Yankees jacket, and a backwards cap.
He finished off the look with an obligatory scarf, the accessory he’s favored most while promoting his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.
This time, however, his black and white scarf was embellished with a pattern of black skulls, just like the ones millennials scoured the mall for in 2004. Honestly, all Chalamet’s missing are some tighter jeans and a pair of tattered checkered Vans.
Of course, if you were a “fashion girlie” at the time, you probably associate the sheer skull scarf with Alexander McQueen’s spring-summer 2023 collection. Seriously, I can not emphasize the chokehold this scarf had on celebrities between 2004 and 2010.
