A Florida woman was in for a big surprise after adopting a puppy she believed to be a black Labrador, only to find out that her new furry friend may actually be a Cane Corso.
Nancy Muth adopted Rocco earlier this year from a family who was no longer able to take care of him. At the time, she was told he was a black Labrador, but after sharing a video of him on TikTok, a user pointed out that he resembles a Cane Coro.
During Rocco’s first veterinary appointment, the veterinarian confirmed that he looked more like a Cane Corso than a Labrador. “Rocco’s first pet visit went well until the vet told me that he’s going to be HUGE,” Muth captioned a TikTok post.
Many viewers shared their reactions to Rocco’s news in the comments. “His snout gave that away,” one person said. Another wrote: “I can definitely see cane corso.” Others were less concerned about Rocco’s breed and more focused on how cute he is. “Don’t care what breed he is. He’s adorable,” one user commented.
The Cane Corso is a large working dog breed and was officially recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 2010. Corsi are known for being intelligent, loyal, and eager to please, but they can also be assertive. According to the AKC, early socialization with people and other dogs is vital.
Muth told Newsweek that she’s getting a DNA test to confirm Rocco’s breed. He will also receive professional training to “ensure he has the best life possible,” Muth said. “We’re nervous but excited—he’s already so smart, and with the little training we’ve started at home, I’m confident he’s going to be an amazing dog.”
