What is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)?
MMA is a combat sport that combines a variety of martial arts disciplines such as boxing, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, wrestling, Muay Thai, and more, allowing fighters to use both striking and grappling techniques. Adding MMA to your fitness routine can be a game changer. Apart from learning some powerful self-defence moves, MMA is a great stress buster and can also help you burn calories.
Inspired by Disha Patani, here are five reasons why you should include MMA in your workout.
- 1. Full-Body Workout: MMA requires a combination of strength, endurance, agility, and flexibility. You will work every muscle group, improving cardiovascular fitness and muscle tone simultaneously.
- 2. Increased Strength and Power: The movements in MMA, like throwing punches, kicking, or grappling, build both strength and power, and help with muscle development and functional fitness.
- 3. Improved Conditioning: MMA training involves intense cardio, which increases stamina and endurance. Whether you’re sparring or drilling techniques, your cardiovascular system will get a serious boost.
- 4. Mental Toughness: MMA pushes you to your physical and mental limits, teaching you how to stay focused, persevere through difficult situations, and push past discomfort—skills that can be useful both in and out of the gym.
- 5. Self-Defence: Besides being a great workout, MMA can teach you practical self-defence techniques that can help in real-life situations.
