What Is A Stroke?
A stroke occurs when a sudden clot blocks the arteries supplying blood to the brain, or when these arteries rupture, cutting off the brain’s blood supply. This condition is known as an ischaemic stroke.
If blood flow to the brain is disrupted for too long, oxygen deprivation can lead to brain cell death. Some brain cells do not regenerate, meaning a severe stroke can result in coma or even death.
How Flossing Lowers Stroke Risk

Experts stress that oral hygiene plays a crucial role in maintaining heart health. While many consider brushing twice a day to be the key to oral care, flossing is equally important.
Dr Souvik Sen, a neurology expert at the University of South Carolina, noted, “I’m not saying flossing alone will prevent strokes, but it is a significant step. It not only lowers the risk of heart disease but also promotes overall health. Regular flossing helps prevent oral infections and gum disease, which in turn reduces inflammation in the body.”

Dental flossing involves using a thread to remove debris lodged between the teeth. When people eat, tiny food particles often get stuck, leading to bacterial build-up. If left uncleaned, this can cause gum disease and increase the risk of heart conditions. Regular flossing helps eliminate this risk.
