What is Anuja about?
Anuja, which was directed by Adam J. Graves, tells the account of a girl with extraordinary talent who overcame adversity to support her sister but is left with a decision to take. The movie as per the credits is made with the support and collaboration of The Salaam Baalak Trust, a nonprofit organisation. Sajda Pathan, the movie’s main character, was one of the children under the NGO’s supervision. The makers also showed the film to the kids there and it was met with claps, giggles and some whistles.

Palak and Anuja earned a low daily pay working at a textile factory, and it was clear that they needed more money to make ends meet. Palak wanted her sister to pursue education and a nice life because she was aware of Anuja’s exceptional talent. Mr. Mishra paid a visit to Mr. Verma, the employer of Palak and Anuja. He instructed Mr. Verma to allow Anuja to take the school’s entrance exam but Verma didn’t want that to happen. Although the education Anuja would get would be paid, there is an examination fee to give. So Palak digs out an idea and starts making bags from the leftover cloth from the factory.
Clever Anuja sneaked into a retail mall and sold two cotton bags for 800 rupees, despite their decision to sell the bags for Rs 40 (fast money you know).

What happens to Anuja?
Verma told Anuja that although she would no longer be working behind the sewing machine starting on Tuesday, she would assist him in maintaining the accounting. That nasty man told her that she had to report to the office at precisely eight o’clock on Tuesday since he knew she had an exam at that hour.
Did she take up the job?
The movie doesn’t say whether she accepts the job or not, but it does show that Anuja had to decide whether to help her sister or pursue her education because she needed the money. It describes how thousands of these children struggle every day in order to have a meal and stay alive.
