At 38, Telugu superstar Naga Chaitanya is one of the fittest actors in the industry. Recently, the actor appeared on a health podcast and opened up about his diet. He mentioned how he has reduced the quantity of sugar in his diet. He also called sugar ‘the biggest toxin’ for your body.
Appearing on Raw Talks With VK, Naga Chaitanya opened up about what he eats in a day. He mentioned how he believes that an increased intake of sugar can increase the risk of many diseases. He said, “Sugar is the biggest toxin for your body. Alcohol is better, tobacco is better, anything is better.”
Naga continued, “Please don’t quote me on this. I’m just saying… don’t put a Reel on this. I’m just saying that in comparison, I believe sugar causes us many problems like cancer, diabetes, and so many things that are life-threatening. So I’m very conscious. I consume very little sugar, only on my cheat days.”
When consumed in excess, sugar can have multiple negative effects on your body. Here are seven key ways in which sugar can negatively impact your health.
- 1. Weight Gain and Obesity: Consuming too much sugar, especially in sugary drinks and processed foods, leads to excess calorie intake. This can contribute to weight gain and increase the risk of obesity, as the body stores excess sugar as fat.
- 2. Increased Risk of Heart Disease: Diets high in added sugars have been linked to increased risk factors for heart disease, such as high blood pressure, inflammation, and high levels of triglycerides and LDL cholesterol.
- 3. Type 2 Diabetes: High sugar intake can lead to insulin resistance, where the body’s cells become less responsive to insulin. Over time, this can contribute to the development of type 2 diabetes, as the pancreas struggles to produce enough insulin to regulate blood sugar levels.
- 4. Tooth Decay: Sugar feeds harmful bacteria in the mouth that produce acid, which can erode tooth enamel. This contributes to cavities, gum disease, and other dental problems.
- 5. Fatty Liver Disease: Excessive sugar, particularly fructose (found in high-fructose corn syrup), is metabolized by the liver and can be converted into fat. This can lead to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
- 6. Increased Inflammation: High sugar intake can cause increased levels of inflammation in the body, which is associated with many chronic conditions like arthritis, cardiovascular disease, and autoimmune disorders. Inflammation can also accelerate ageing.
- 7. Poor Skin Health: Diets high in sugar can contribute to skin problems, such as acne. This is partly because high sugar levels can cause spikes in insulin, leading to increased oil production in the skin. Additionally, sugar can also break down collagen and lead to wrinkles and sagging skin.
