Botox does not necessarily lead to skin sagging but it temporarily relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles.
Appearing on a recent podcast, Urvashi Rautela spoke about the disadvantages of Botox treatments.
Botox has become a popular treatment, especially among women, to maintain a young look and remain wrinkle-free. However, many overlook the side effects, which can negatively affect their skin. Recently, actress Urvashi Rautela spoke about the downsides of botox, while warning that repeated treatments can cause skin sagging over time. She feels thankful to be born in Uttarakhand, a region known for its natural beauty, and her background in science has made her curious about the ingredients in beauty products. She wondered if people who want Botox have ever taken the time to learn about its side effects and risks.
While appearing on the Hindi Rush podcast, Urvashi Rautela said, “I would say there are a lot of disadvantages also attached with it. Whenever a female gets it done, after a point, you will see that those things start sagging. Then, to fix them, you get it done again, which leads to some side effects, and then you do something else. It is a personal decision. To me, touchwood, I’m from the Himalayas, I am a pahadi girl. Pahari people, not just me, you go to Uttarakhand, you will see beauty everywhere. My father is so good looking, my mother, my naani looks like Vyjayanthimala.”
“We naturally have high cheekbones. Touchwood, to each their own, it’s a personal decision, but because I was a science student and I have always been curious about the scientific aspects of things, What are the components? What are the ingredients? What are the side effects? There are so many new things in the market now. Ozempic has come into the market. There’s Mounjaro. Everybody is going crazy about it. Everyone wants it, but has anyone tried to find out what its side effects and disadvantages are?” Urvashi Rautela asked.
Although Urvashi Rautela believes that getting Botox is not good for the skin, Dr Gunasekar Vuppalapati, a senior plastic surgeon at GVG Invivo Hospitals, shared a different opinion in an interview with The Indian Express. He said that many people mistakenly think that Botox leads to skin sagging, but that is not the case.
According to the medical professional, “Botox works by temporarily relaxing the muscles that cause wrinkles, preventing excessive facial movement that leads to fine lines and creases. It does not weaken the skin itself but rather limits muscle contraction.”
Dr Gunasekar Vuppalapati further explained that choosing Botox should depend on a person’s skin type and health history. Before deciding, it is important to speak with a dermatologist or aesthetic surgeon to see if Botox is the right choice or if other treatments might work better. People should also understand that Botox does not stop ageing forever, it only reduces wrinkles and slows down the formation of new ones. Before getting the procedure, individuals must share any health issues, allergies or medications they are taking, as some medical conditions may not be suitable for the procedure.
