Japonico: A Multi-Dimensional Culinary Destination
Japonico is the talk of the town, and for good reason. Founder Sahil Sambhi has brought to life three distinct spaces within a single restaurant — a high-energy party zone, an elegant dining area, and a sprawling al fresco setting that overlooks the glamorous Gurugram skyline.
Designed by Freddy Birdy, Japonico boasts striking architectural elements, including a 32-foot-long stainless steel bar with a cascading waterfall backdrop, a 15-foot robata grill that seats up to 12 guests for an interactive dining experience, and a one-of-a-kind DJ console crafted from a single acacia tree, doubling as a high table.
Spanning 6,500 square feet, Japonico transforms throughout the day—afternoons are bathed in soft, natural light; evenings transition into an intimate fine-dining experience with slow music and mood lighting; and by night, it turns into a high-energy club with vibrant beats and a lively atmosphere.
NIKO: A Minimalist Masterpiece in Design and Dining
NIKO presents a striking contrast to the maximalism of other restaurants in the city. Designed by its founders, the space is a reflection of their understated personal style, where beauty lies in raw simplicity. The muted color palette—beiges, greys, and browns—paired with soft, diffused lighting creates an effortlessly elegant ambiance.
Sculptural elements, including an installation of 200 dehydrated twigs, serve as captivating focal points. The bar, positioned at the far end of the 2,000-square-foot ground floor space, draws guests in with its warm backlighting, offering glimpses of the team’s seamless craftsmanship.
One of NIKO’s most intriguing design features is its use of everyday materials in innovative ways. For instance, the wall panels, designed from locally sourced white cotton sheets by co-founder Pratinav Pratap Singh, gently sway with the breeze, adding a sculptural finesse. The open industrial kitchen seamlessly blends functionality with artistry, engaging guests as they watch the culinary and bar teams at work up close.
