I’m scared to admit this, but in the thick of winter, I stopped using body lotion. Trust me, as a wellness editor, I know how big of a crime this is, but I truly no longer need this step in my skin care routine thanks to my new favorite shower oil.
Sol de Janeiro is, of course, known for its line of hydrating body butters (you cannot go anywhere these days without smelling the glorious aroma of its Brazilian Bum Bum cream on somebody in the vicinity), but it took me far too long to try its delectable Delícia Drench shower oil—which has truly changed my Everything Shower routine for the better.
The supremely hydrating shower oil combines the cleansing of a soap with the delicious quenching of a body oil into one must-have product. Packed with nourishing ingredients like bacuri butter, hibiscus, and Brazilian oils, the shower oil restores and replenishes the skin barrier while giving it the essential fatty acids necessary to retain moisture for the long term.
The vegan and sulfate-free shower oil smells like a sultry dream come to life. Its fragrance notes include vanilla orchid, amber, sandalwood, plum, and sugared violet, which yes, sounds as delectable as it smells IRL. It lathers up like a body wash, so when I first used it I expected any hydration to be rinsed away with the bubbles, but I was thoroughly impressed that the silky feeling it gave my skin stayed not just for the end of my rinse, but for much longer after.
See, I’m a bit of an experimenter when it comes to testing out new products, so after I was so impressed with the hydrating results from one use, I had no choice but to do the unthinkable: ditch lotion and see how this shower oil stood on its own. I’m happy—and relieved—to say that using only this shower oil provides more than enough hydration to make such a move. In fact, I’ve used this product for over a week, and my skin remains silky, crack-free, and luminous.
Will I keep this going into the spring? Yes. Using Delícia Drench on its own prevents my skin from getting a weird, heavy, wet feeling, even when I’m hot. Some lotions melt off my body when I’m hot, but thanks to this shower oil, I don’t have to worry about that icky feeling.
For anyone with dry skin who can’t find a lotion to repair it, I say go for this shower oil and get ready for your new life. You’ll soon smell like a Smut book main character (this is a good thing) and have the luminescent skin of a commercial actress.
