The Winter Arc trend follows a structured skincare approach designed to shield and nourish the skin during colder months. This phased regimen ensures the skin remains resilient, hydrated, and well-balanced throughout winter.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Dr. Trishna Gupte, Clinical Cosmetologist and Founder of the Cosmo-Square Clinic and ISCA Institute discussed the importance of seasonal skincare adjustments. She emphasised that pre-winter preparation is crucial for reinforcing the skin barrier before the temperature drops. During this phase, incorporating ceramides, fatty acids, and hydrating serums helps create a strong foundation, reducing the likelihood of winter-induced dryness and irritation.
As winter progresses, the mid-winter nourishment phase calls for richer, more occlusive skincare products. Dr. Gupte highlighted the need to use heavier creams, facial oils, and occlusives to maintain optimal moisture levels. These products form a protective layer against harsh winds and indoor heating, preventing the skin from becoming excessively dry.
In the late-winter recovery phase, the focus shifts towards rejuvenation and repair. By introducing gentle exfoliation and lightweight hydrating products, the skin can regain its balance and transition smoothly into the spring season.
Morning Skincare Routine
According to Hindustan Times, Dr. Gupte recommended beginning the morning skincare regimen with a gentle cleanser that preserves the skin’s natural oils. After cleansing, using a hydrating toner can enhance the absorption of subsequent products. Incorporating a hyaluronic acid or vitamin C serum into the routine provides essential hydration while offering protection against environmental stressors. To seal in moisture, she advised applying a rich moisturizer, followed by a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) to defend the skin against harmful UV rays.
Hydration and Skin Wellness
In addition to topical care, internal hydration plays a key role in maintaining healthy, radiant skin. Dr. Gupte emphasised the significance of drinking plenty of water throughout the day, as it helps keep the skin hydrated from within and supports overall skin health.
Nighttime Skincare Routine
Exfoliating gently once or twice a week aids in removing dead skin cells, revealing a brighter, more refreshed complexion. Dr. Gupte suggested incorporating a hydrating serum with niacinamide or ceramides in the evening to repair and strengthen the skin barrier. Applying a nourishing night cream or facial oil ensures deep hydration, helping the skin remain soft and supple overnight. Additionally, using a protective balm on the lips and hands helps prevent dryness and chapping caused by cold winter air.
Protective Measures Against Winter Damage
As reported by Hindustan Times, Dr. Gupte also emphasised the importance of avoiding hot showers, as excessive heat can strip away the skin’s natural oils, leading to dryness and irritation. She also highlighted the need for protective clothing, such as scarves and gloves, to defend the skin against cold winter winds and prevent moisture loss.
