Hollywood star Audrey Hepburn spent her last thirty years living in a tranquil Swiss villa that is currently for sale. The New York Post has reported that the opulent residence is available for $20.8 million. It may surprise you to know that the renowned actor, whose grace and charisma enthralled audiences globally, is interred in a cemetery adjacent to the property.
Audrey Hepburn’s Beautiful Estate: Know More About It
The estate of Audrey Hepburn, known as La Paisible, meaning ‘peaceful place’, is situated in the little Francophone town of Tolochenaz, close to Geneva and the French border. The property is close to Lake Geneva and offers seclusion. From 1963 until her passing in 1993, La Paisible served as Audrey Hepburn’s escape from the limelight.
The property, which is situated on more than 40 acres of land, blends modern luxury with historic charm. According to FrancisYork.com, the three-story house is roughly 10,800 square feet in size and has 21 rooms, including 12 bedrooms, 8 baths, and five original fireplaces.
The grounds have a heated swimming pool, rolling hills, and century-old trees with views of the mountains. La Paisible’s lovely rose garden is one of its most endearing features.
Over the years, La Paisible has undergone careful renovations and maintenance. Audrey Hepburn’s son sold the estate to Katharina and Jean-Marc Beaujolin in 2001, who are now its owners. Most of the house was still decorated with flowery patterns that mirrored Audrey’s style, much as she had left it.
There are still indications of the actor’s presence even though the Beaujolins have since updated and renovated several areas of the mansion. Many of the 60 white rose bushes which Audrey for her 60th birthday are still in bloom in the rose garden that can be seen from the kitchen window.
In addition to its Hollywood heritage, the Beaujolins loved the mansion and brought up their six children there. Two of their sons were married in the lovely gardens, and 150 guests celebrated on the wide lawns. A heated 50-foot pool became the favourite summertime gathering place for family and friends.
According to Beaujolin, the house’s external plaque with Hepburn’s name on it is never obtrusive, even if visitors occasionally stop by to take pictures.
