Celebrity stylist Brenda Cooper says it’s time to dump your minimalist aesthetic for something a little more flirty like fringe. “While minimalism has appeal, it can sometimes come off as bland and uninspired, especially in a vibrant season like spring,” she begins. “Fringe is sweeping across runways, injecting joy into otherwise quieter silhouettes. These playful elements add movement and drama to your outfit. This trend is about embracing volume and fun, making it ideal for those who want to elevate their everyday looks with flair.”
Out: Oversized SilhouetteIn: Defined Tailoring
Banana Republic
“While oversized tailoring has had its moment, it often lacks the structure that makes a statement,” Cooper explains. “The silhouette can feel unbalanced and may not flatter various body types. As we look ahead to spring, embracing tailored pieces that enhance the figure without overwhelming it is essential. Defined tailoring is making a strong comeback, showcasing jackets with strong shoulders and nipped waists that create an empowering silhouette. Tailored jackets and pants allow for bold statements without feeling overly formal. Pairing a perfectly tailored pant with a ruffled statement blouse adds a contemporary touch while keeping the look fresh and exciting, perfect for work and social gatherings.”
Out: Metallic FabricsIn: Soft Plaids
Lucky Brand
Cooper insists that “shiny metallic fabrics have had their moment,” but now it’s time to make way for subtler prints. “Softer plaids are set to take the stage this spring, breathing new life into a classic pattern usually reserved for fall. These muted plaids add a gentle touch to any ensemble, allowing for playful layering with prints like pinstripes or small polka dots.
Out: Barn JacketIn: Trench Coat
GAP
According to Dianne Boyer, stylist and founder of the fashion blog Dianne In Style, we’re putting away our barn jackets for another traditional design. “Moving from fall’s revival of the classic barn jacket to the always-classic trench coat is an easy move, but there is a way to update the look as well,” she tells us. “This season, look for trench coats that follow other trending details such as asymmetrical cuts, belted waists, and even cropped cape-like styles. What’s great about the trench coat is that it can always be dressed up or down.”
Out: Quiet LuxuryIn: Sporty Pieces
Macy’s
It’s finally time to drop quiet luxury for a sportier alternative. Jackie Schiavone, a stylist at My Someday Project, says it’s time to whip out a varsity jacket. “Refined looks were extremely popular this winter,” she explains. “Now you can expect to see more sportier styles. A perfect example would be a varsity jacket made from a luxury material or texture.” She recommends pairing sportier pieces with more “feminine silhouettes” to add fun and interest to your outfit while striking a chic balance.

Stylist Tara West suggests dropping our dark and moody red shades for something prettier and demure. “The only color that is able to fill those shoes for spring would be a gorgeous blush tone,” she asserts. “The subtleness of the hue that lends itself to the ultimate feminine vibes also feels light and neutral, so there is an effortlessness to it as well. Style this stunning color with everything from suiting in ivory, black, or grey.”
Out: Traditional StylesIn: Nautical Vibes

Embrace fun looks this time of year by swapping more traditional styles with pieces that evoke a nautical feel. “Think roomy sailor pants, classic striped tops, canvas sneakers, adorable espadrilles, and gold strappy sandals, ” advises CEO of The Bobbi Schwartz Group and Be Iconic Style, Bobbi Schwartz. “Though this is a departure from the luxe of the quiet luxury from fall, the nautical theme is a stunning and timeless aesthetic.”
Out: Moto BootsIn: Kitten Heel Mules
Target
“Kitten heel mules should be a key style this spring because they perfectly balance elegance, comfort, and versatility, aligning with the shift towards wearable fashion,” describes Natalie Roger, of online bridal boutique, Vowed. “It’s a chic way of embracing vintage-inspired aesthetics, particularly of the ‘90s and early 2000s trends. Kitten heel mules fit seamlessly into both minimalist and maximalist wardrobes. Additionally, their slip-on design works well with the fast-paced, on-the-go lifestyle of modern consumers. We’ll see them with all sorts of outfits, from formal dresses to office trousers to jeans.”
Out: Cheetah and Leopard PrintIn: Cow Print
Nordstrom Rack
Animal prints will never go out of style, but stylist and founder of fashion brand Amour781, Ashley Full, says it’s time to move on from leopard prints to something as flattering yet unexpected. “Cow print will be the latest animal on the block this spring, and it fits perfectly with the Western trend that is on the rise,” she notes. “You can really have fun with this trend. I love the idea of pulling out a denim jacket and wearing a denim-on-denim look with a fun cow print belt.”
Out: Luxury Designer BagsIn: Quality Minimalist Bags
Anthropologie
“The prestige of high-end luxury bags is taking a dip,” says capsule stylist and founder of The Elegance Edit, Celeste Renee. “This shift is pushing fashion-forward individuals toward lesser-known but high-quality handbags that prioritize craftsmanship over logos. As more people choose bags for their quality and uniqueness, we are seeing a rise in ‘hidden gem’ designs.”
