Mauni Amavasya 2025: It is believed that bathing in the holy Sangam of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, followed by donations on Mauni Amavasya, brings virtue and salvation
Mauni Amavasya, also known as Magh Amavasya, is considered one of the most auspicious days in Hindu mythology. It is dedicated to ancestors and falls in the middle of the Magh month. According to the Hindu calendar, Mauni Amavasya will be observed on Wednesday, January 29.
On this day, taking a dip in the holy rivers and making donations holds special significance.
This year, Mauni Amavasya is made special because of the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in UP’s Prayagraj where crores of devotees plan to take the holy dip on January 29 at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati.
It is believed that bathing in the holy Sangam of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, followed by donations on Mauni Amavasya, brings virtue and salvation.
This will be the second, and the biggest yet, Amrit Snan at the Maha Kumbh.
If you are planning to bathe in the Maha Kumbh during Mauni Amavasya Tithi, it is important to take five dips to make the most of it. Krishnagiri Peethadheeshwar Vasant Vijay Ji Maharaj has explained the significance and benefits of these five dips during Mauni Amavasya.
Vasant Vijay Ji Maharaj stated that Mauni Amavasya is the biggest bathing festival at the Maha Kumbh. On this day, one must take five dips, including the first two in the same direction and the rest in three other different directions.
To begin, take the first dip facing east. When you go to bathe, turn your face towards the east and take the first dip of faith. Before dipping, you must bow to Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati, and Jal Devta.
Next, while still facing east, take the second dip. This dip brings the blessings of your Kul Devta and Ishta Devta.
Then, take the third dip facing north. By doing this, you will receive the blessings of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, the Sapta Rishis, sages, and Gurus.
After this, take the fourth dip facing west. This dip will bring the blessings of all beings such as Kinnar, Yaksha, Garuda, and the 33 crore gods and goddesses.
Finally, take the fifth dip facing south. This dip is for the salvation and welfare of your ancestors.
According to Vasant Vijay Ji Maharaj, observing Mauni Amavasya by taking five symbolic dips can bring success in all endeavours. This practice bestows blessings from gods, goddesses, and ancestors, ultimately leading to progress and fulfilment in life.
