Reimagining the ‘payal’ and crafting a gown from it, can only be a work of someone as exceptional as Gaurav Gupta. Global rap icon Megan Thee Stallion, who first wore Gaurav Gupta couture at the Oscars 2022, made heads turn at the Gaurav Gupta Couture Spring/Summer 2025 show, where he was presenting his collection, Across the Flame, at Paris Couture Week.
Looking magnificent in a custom Gaurav Gupta Chakric Drape Chain Gown, the ensemble celebrated the interplay of contemporary artistry and India’s rich cultural heritage. Crafted from cascading silver chains traditionally called ‘payals’, anklets worn to ward off evil spirits, the scintillating chains orbited her body in a cosmic odyssey. Megan’s look was completed with a metallic serpentine headpiece, contouring the face with cascading chains.
Calling it a monumental moment, on having Megan Thee Stallion adorn his design, couturier, Gaurav Gupta, says, “Megan is a cosmic force and working with her to craft this disruptive piece that embodies the spirit of tribal India has been exhilarating. Her willingness to explore and push boundaries made the collaboration a monumental moment.”
The couture piece featured the chakra motifs created in metal and were placed meticulously on the energy fields within the human body. Pieces of Indian tribal jewellery were collected and assembled to create this delicate metallic sheath, giving couture a new dimension. This striking piece is a tribute to the universal connection between the physical and spiritual, a theme that resonates deeply within Gaurav Gupta’s avant-garde philosophy.
For Gaurav, crafting Chakric Drape Chain Gown was an intricate process as the ensemble demanded over 200 hours of dedicated craftsmanship. A team of skilled artisans worked to achieve the perfect sheer ensemble.
Styled by Eric Archibald, Megan’s fearless and glamorous personality brought Gaurav’s artistry to life. Speaking about the collaboration with the Megan and working with Eric, Hema Bose, founder of Maison Bose, says, “Megan is the ultimate embodiment of fearless fashion. She has consistently pushed boundaries, redefining glamour with her unapologetic confidence and avant-garde choices. Working alongside Eric Archibald, whose vision is unparalleled, has been an incredible journey. His ability to marry Megan’s bold, experimental spirit with the artistry of Gaurav Gupta is truly extraordinary. This moment at Paris Couture Week is a testament to the magic that happens when music, culture, and couture collide.”
