Get ready, Maryland, Captain D’s is coming for you.
The fast-casual seafood restaurant chain announced the exciting news of five new restaurants in the Baltimore-metro area that will be built out over the next several years with completion in 2031.
The chain, known for their batter-dipped fish platters and Southern sides like okra and hush puppies, also announced an expanded presence in Texas.
“We are thrilled to kick off 2025 with some amazing new partners who are excited to bring Captain D’s to communities in Maryland and San Antonio. This expansion into new territories shows our commitment to thoughtful, strategic growth up the eastern seaboard and west of the Mississippi,” Brad Reed, Captain D’s chief development officer, said in a written release. “We provide our owners with great flexibility in choosing layouts and locations that, paired with our versatile seafood and chicken menu, ensure our operators’ success.”
Maryland marks the 24th state for Captain D’s, who announced earlier this year they would also be expanding into the United Kingdom.
“Entering the U.K. with experienced restaurant operators underscores our commitment to our thoughtful international growth. This is just the beginning of our expansion of Captain D’s quality seafood and hospitality to seafood lovers around the world,” Captain D’s CEO Phil Greifeld said in January 2025.
With more than 530 restaurants in 23 states, Captain D’s rapid expansion isn’t surprising for those who are fans of the quick, quality seafood. The restaurant chain with Tennessee roots ranked No. 6 among Americans last year in USA Today’s Reader Choice Awards. The first Captain D’s opened in Donelson, Tennessee, with both seafood and hamburgers on the menu, but changed the options to focus on fried shrimp and fish in 1974. The rest, as they say, is history!
