If you’re a fan of True Food Kitchen, you may know that the restaurant chain’s beloved Kale Caesar Salad was discontinued and removed from the menu. And one of the restaurant’s biggest fans, SZA, was not happy about it. The Grammy award-winning singer took to her Instagram story to vent on the salad she loves and missed.
“PLEASE BRING IT BACK JUSTICE FOR THE KALE [CAESAR],” the artist wrote in all caps on her Instagram story. “I’ll do anything!”
Little did she know, that story post would cause a movement, and True Food Kitchen would do more than just listen. This week, the chain launched SZA’s version of her favorite salad: the SZA CZA Salad. It’s made with simple, vibrant ingredients: a kale base, plus cherry tomatoes, avocado, scallions, rosemary garlic croutons, Parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing.
The best part? It’s for a good cause, as 20% of the proceeds earned from SZA CZA orders will be donated to SÜPRMARKT, an LA-based nonprofit that prioritizes making fresh food accessible to underserved communities.
“The funny part is, this all started because Caesar salads were my hyper fixation meal and True Food Kitchen has the best dressing,” SZA says in a press release. “After begging them to bring the Kale Caesar Salad back from its seasonal retreat, I realized not only should everyone have access to this delicious salad year-round, everyone should have access to organic meals and produce year-round! That’s why building this partnership with True Food Kitchen is so important to me.”
Definitely try this elevated Caesar salad if you have a True Food Kitchen in your area—there are 46 locations across 18 states. But if you’re not near a TFK, it’s easy to recreate SZA’s “hyper fixation” salad at home. Simply toss kale, cherry tomatoes, avocado and Parmesan cheese, and prep ahead your croutons and dressing by following recipes like our Homemade Croutons and Caesar Salad Dressing, respectively.
