If your kitchen received a shiny new upgrade from a major appliance store in the last ten years, we have news you’ll want to hear. This week, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of more than 500,000 LG electric stoves sold at Best Buy, Lowe’s, Costco, Home Depot, LG.com (online), and other appliance stores.
The recalled stoves, which include LG Slide-In and Freestanding Ranges, have directly resulted in nearly 30 fires in homes across the nation spanning the last decade. The problem? These stoves have front-mounted knobs that are easily knocked, meaning that individuals and pets can turn them on by accident.
In total, there have been 86 reports of accidents from the stoves being turned on accidentally from 2015 through January 2025. Sadly, according to the product recall, these LG ranges have been the root cause of at least five fires causing extensive property damage (totaling over $340,000) as well as three fires that involved pet deaths. Eight minor injuries, including burns, have been reported.

A full list of serial numbers can be found here. If your stove is on the list, LG asks that customers contact them directly for a free warning label as well as instructions on where to place the sticker. In addition, the company recommends familiarizing yourself with the stove’s Control Lock or Lock Out feature on the control panel, which disables activation of the heating elements when the range is not in use.
In the meantime, to keep your household safe, the Consumer Product Safety Commission and LG shared a few safety rules-of-thumb to prevent kitchen fires. Be sure to keep children and pets away from the stove; check the range knobs to ensure they are turned off before leaving home, going on vacation, or going to bed; and avoid storing any items on top of the stove when it is not in use—just in case.
