“Fingertip amputation”: Those are two words you never want to hear while you’re hauling your cooler out of the garage. But according to the Consumer Products Safety Commission, certain Igloo rolling coolers have been recalled because of that risk.
The CPSC issued a recall on February 13, warning “the tow handle can pinch consumers’ fingertips against the cooler, posing fingertip amputation and crushing hazards.” The recall applies to more than a million Igloo 90-quart Flip & Tow rolling coolers manufactured before January 2024. The recall occurred after Igloo received “12 reports of fingertip injuries, including fingertip amputations, bone fractures, and lacerations.”
Owners of these coolers should stop using them and contact Igloo for a free replacement tow handle. Many of the affected models were labeled Maxcold or Latitude 90, and they came in a range of colors. The coolers were sold between January 2019 and January 2025 at Costco, Target, Academy, Dick’s, and online and at other stores nationwide.
No one wants your next tailgate or backyard barbecue to end in a trip to the emergency room, so check the bottom of your rolling Igloo coolers for manufacture dates and model numbers. The date code looks like a ring with an arrow pointing toward the month and a two-digit year. You can see a full list of affected models on the CPSC website at cpsc.gov/Recalls.
